The never ending summer

The heat and humidity seems to go on forever, the days are slipping by so quickly it feels hard to keep up sometimes. Time goes so slow and so quick all at once here, with markers of time and happenings. There are the odd days now of autumnal chill in the air, the turning of leaves and  the feeling of a changing season - but these days like the rains are still few and far between.

The rains came thick and fast one night last week , the noise of the storm and the drumming of the rain drowned out even the constant hum of the ceiling fan, and usual nightime noises. Thunderstorms so bright and insistent it shook the sleep from me, the sleepest of people... but awake in the morning to another hot hot day, with no sign of the nights events other than small puddles, quickly drying in the heat of an even hotter day!

The photos that follow are a higgeldy jumble of recent times, but will hopefully give you an idea of how life is for us here....

The view from my studio is changing daily, i'm nestled in amongst and surrounded by paddy fields. each day a square of land will fill with water and spring into life, a checker board of rice green.
My work follows patterns and rituals in nature, important markers throughout the year, the changing seasons.... whilst those in England were celebrating Lammas (the first harvest of the year) here in Southern India we celebrated Aadi Perukku (please see the link bellow)
